Common Questions |
1. Q: Has your company been in business for very long?
A: We are a second and third generation staircase manufacturer and we are happy to provide references upon request. |
2. Q: Are you a full service company?
A: We believe the manufacture of wooden staircases and related millwork is where we excel. We can recommend trades that specialize in other aspects of construction. |
3. Q: Do you paint or stain the staircase, or do we hire a painter to do that?
A: We do not paint or stain our products we believe that is better left to a professional painter/ housepainter. |
4. Q: Do you attach strapping on the back of the stair in preparation for drywall or other finishes?
A: We are staircase manufacturers; any design or fitting options that can be incorporated into a staircase while at our factory is possible. Any and all work related to onsite finishing is the domain of the Owner/Contactor. Therefore we do not add strapping to the back of stairs. |
5. Q: Will you install the staircase for us, and what does that entail?
A: We are able to quote the Delivery and installation of staircases that we manufacture. Installation involves attaching the stair to an accurately framed and prepared well opening(If landings are required these must be built on site by the Owner/ Contractor ahead of any staircase installation). We do not however frame walls, install drywall or trim. That is the responsibility of the owner/contractor. |
6. Q: Does the staircase have protective wrapping on it when it leaves your factory?
A: Protection of the staircase is not always required. It can however, be provided at a small additional charge. |
7. Q: Does protective wrapping protect my staircase from work site damage?
A: Unfortunately protective wrapping does not guarantee that the staircase won't become damaged due to typical work site construction practice. Often typical work site practices can result in nicks and scratches to the stairs. This is why it is sometimes best if finishes are applied at the end of a job, normally when the rest of the house is being painted. |
8. Q: We would like our painter to paint or stain the staircase before it is installed. Is that a problem?
A: Regrettably we are unable to provide suitable facilities for painting or staining. We recommend that the staircase be installed with adequate protection, and the staircase be painted when the rest of the house is being painted. Should you decide to have the staircase painted or stained before installation it is assumed that we would have received payment in full before any additions or alterations to our product are made. |
9. Q: Is the staircase made exactly to size?
A: Actually we intentionally undersize the width, and sometimes the run of the staircase. This is a precaution we have to take to insure the stair will fit within the confines of the stairwell. A trim carpenter would then be hired by the Owner/Contractor to trim the staircase/well opening. |
10. Q: Do you need to know what my finished floor materials are on all floor levels and their thicknesses?
A: Yes, with this information we are able to make adjustments to the top and bottom risers of each staircase; there by insuring uniform rise. It is very important that the choice of flooring not be change once construction of the staircase has commenced. Failure to do this will cause the staircase not to meet local building code requirements! |
